My grandparents, Noah Thompson Garland and Bell McCormack Garland, started
out for Arkansas in the late 1800's; there already were Garland kin there.
They went by connestoga wagon, or something similar. My Uncle John Lafeyette
Garland walked in front, carrying a rifle. When they got to the river, it was
too high to cross, so they came back to Pike and did not try to go to Arkansas
again. In 1906 or so, they moved over to Huntingburg.
