Hello
My name is Kayleene Lowe and I am a new subscriber. My great grand
Father James W (William, William J, David W) Carter was a pioneer of
Oklahoma who was born in Indiana. His father was John W CARTER and his
mother was Nancy Ann FRAZIER.
For 35 years all that I knew was James was born about 1870 in Indiana
with a father named John. Like looking for a needle in a haystack.
John W CARTER was in Chautauqua Co Ks in 1880 (bottom southeast corner
of Kansas) they moved to Ellis County Kansas by 1900. (North west
Kansas).
With the new census records with
Ancestry.com was finally able to locate
my James Carter.
He was born abt 1869 in Pike County Indiana. Found him on the 1870 Pike
county census with his father John W CATRER and his mother Nancy. Next
door was James CARTER and his wife Canda. In 1860 Pike Co Census we
find John W CARTER living with his parents.
From reading back archives and other resources, know that Canda CARTER
is Canda DAVIS daughter of Jesse Gross DAVIS and Helen MASON.
Believe that John CARTER might be the son of Jesse and Sarah CARTER in
Patoka Twp.
1900 Ellis Co Ks has Canda with son Jesse CARTER. Also her son Warren
CARTER. Canda , Jesse and Warren are still in Ellis Co in 1910.
Believe that Canda and Jessie died in Ellis Co Ks. Warren is still
alive in the 1930 Kansas Census in Clay County.
Would like to exchange information with anybody working on the Davis,
Carter or Mason line.
Would also be greatful for any information on Nancy Ann Frazier wife of
John W CARTER. Know that she was born in Tennessee and would have
married John Carter abt 1868 in Indiana. Died in Ellis County Kansas
and is buried in the Hays Cemetery in Hays Ellis Co Ks
Thanks for any help
Kayleene
