Does anyone know of an influenza epidemic in Pike County in 1877? We have a
set of great-grandparents, Edward Franklin Corn and Martha Jane (Stephens)
Corn who both died from influenza within a short period of time in 1877,
according to our information. Since both died and both were young (48, 37),
we wonder if this was a widespread influenza, rather than an isolated case.
They were farmers in the southwestern part of Marion Township, near the
current state forest.
