Hello everyone! Even though I've looked at this data the last few days, it
has just now dawned on me that I made an error. In the 1870 census, Winnie
Thomas' first child was born 1858 before the marriage date. So, this must
be a different Winnie and William (even though their approximate birth years
are the same for both of them). I had taken their children's names from
Lucile Viehe Failing (a distant cousin of mine, a McNabb-Thomas also) who
made the trip to Pike County several times starting in the early 20s until
the 60s, and had spoken with many Thomas' during that 40 years span. The
last update she made to her family tree was in the mid 70s. She did some
really good work, especially considering she didn't have the tools that we
do today. This just may be an error, I myself did it! So, here's the
children's names we have, if these look familiar to anyone, maybe I can
properly place them on my gedcom. Etta W (born around 1858), Homer Curtis
(born around 1859), and Pleasant Greenbury (born around 1861). I have found
two different files on
Familysearch.org which state different names (which I
had originally considered to be mispellings, but may not have been, may be
entirely different women) - Winney J Traylor and Winnie Traynor as parents.
Both still list the father as William Thomas. Are Winney Traylor (said to
be born approximately 2 years earlier than my Virginia) different
individuals. Did they marry the same William or two different Williams? I
will continue to try and solve this puzzle. If anyone has already figured
out this problem or has any clues to help me in my search, please let me
know.
Puzzled,
