Betty and Sandy,Don't know if it is the same Stucky family or not,but my mom
and dad bought a house that still standing in Indianapolis. They bought the
house about 1961. IT was then over a hundren years old and had much of the
original furnishings and such stuff as chrystal chandiler, claw foot tub,old wood
work, etc. Now my mother was a "modern woman"and hated old things,so she
remodled it and donated much of the furnishings to the GoodWill or somesuch place.
Anyway, the home was owned by a Stucky family who had owned Stucky Coal and
Oil Co.,in Indy,it had been an estate sale, when the old Stucky died. There was
even an older home that went with the place as a rental, that I figure was the
old home before the one that mom and dad lived in. I found a window seat
when they remodled with loads of old papers and documents in it. Now mother was
born and raised in Pike Co. I don't remember her saying anything about
knowing any of the family, but maybe it did not connect in her mind,or maybe I have
forgotten,or perhaps she never heard the name down there in Patoka Twnship
where they were from(Ayrshire Coal mine town). But any way I just thought I would
through this out in case it was a link. I do not even remember the first
name. But if anyone is interested, they could always do the research for Indy or
Marion County,Indiana. or go by the address,which was 444 and 446 S.
Trowbridge St. or look for Stuckys Coal and Oil Co. I think that it was a pretty good
sized company and was located not far from the nighborhood of the house, but
was not anywhere near walking distance of it.
