The LDS has a test site located at
http://pilot.familysearch.org for public
use. Eventually (I have read), this "option" will be available through their
main web site, again for free public use. Currently, there are millions of
records available for viewing and the program is expanded daily adding new
search technologies and or applications for testing. It would appear that
their ultimate goal is to make all their records available for viewing for
anyone who owns or uses a computer.
The beauty of this system for the genealogist is that this system uses and
shows the original unedited records as filmed by the LDS. Ultimately, you
won't have to physically go into the local LDS FHC
(Family History Center), rather, you will be able to see all their holdings
directly on the computer. A magnificent undertaking.
