Death records are particularly apt to have mistakes. If the daughter who
gave the info is the child of the second wife, she may simply not know. She
may remember hearing a name in some connection, and misapply. I spent a
long time looking for my grandmother's parents John and Mary from her death
certificate. It turned out their names were Richard and Ellen. My aunt who
gave the info knew only the surnames. They had died before she was born, so
she just put John and Mary.
I did check my old Jarbo book for this Mary, but did not find her there.

Hi Kim,
Linda was right. There is a marriage record for a Fielding Deen who
married a Mary Ann Jarbo on 31 Aug 1848. This is the listing from the
1850 census:
1850 Perry county, IN, Union twp
Deen, Fielden - 23 - IN - Farmer - 500 <real estate value>
Mary Ann - 27 - IN
Mary - 1 - IN
Deen, Mary - 63 - VA
Jarboe, Louisa - 18 - IN
Deen, Richard - 13 - IN
Name misspellings are common, so I am sure this is your Fielding
Dean. Mary Ann probably died sometime around 1858. Men with children
usually didn't stay single for long. I have the cemetery book for
Union twp, but I didn't find Mary Ann listed. She is probably buried
in an unmarked grave.
There are no Mary Farvers anywhere close to Indiana in 1850, so my
guess is that whoever told your James Dean who his father's first
wife was, simply was told the wrong name. While Jarboe and Farver
aren't close in pronunciation, if the person who gave the information
was older, then it could be confused.
Hope this helps!
