Not sure how all counties are set up. But, ours here has an office in the court house
called Register of Deeds. They have protery records going back and that should be able to
tell you who owned what. Could be call Land office or something else.
We found bureau of land records online (old records only), showing that my husbands great
great grandfather owned property in Crawford County, Indiana. A few years ago we went
there and too the records to a land office in the court house. We had the legal
description of the land. They were able to trace records showing you currently owned the
land and we drove out near there and took some pictures of the land. This was a small
county and the county offices were closed one day a week. So, if you go somewhere you
might check ahead for operating hours.
