Glad to hear this.
Take camera and take photo of other older persons' photos marking down who pic is of
(people don't like lending out photos) and tape recorder or camcorder set up to record
as you are talking to the older ones -- they will "say" they don't remember
anything and suddenly as they talk the most fascinating stories and memories come up.
Don't just talk to family members - remember the older persons in rest homes, living
next door to your ancestors' etc too since-- they too have stories and LOVE having
visitors (usually). How very valuable these can be later on (you can put onto CD or DVD
for each member of your family too) -- especially when it is someone's gr-grandparent
or gr-grandparent voice or photo image say 50 yrs from now!!!
Just remember that part of the fun of genealogy is first building the skeleton of the
family (names, dates, places) and once you get this you want to "put some meat on
them thar bones" (adding family stories from older relatives, letters and
correspondence including old cards and things you find, photos, etc., newspaper articles,
things from history books of area, wills, etc).
Good luck and always remember that when you get frustrated - there is probably someone out
there who can help you.
My best,
Judy M.
Interesting how your post on my paternal ancestry County led me
to you and your resources for my husband's eastern KY paternal clan (abt 10
surnames constantly intermarrying). Thank you for building my confidence.
