I forgot to mention before too --
I had it in my notes and not sure where I got this -- but showed that the
marriages for Kitty Ellen Scott were:
Robert P Letcher Ellen Scott 17 Apr 1856 Harrison Co, IN C 277 her marr
#1
(she had daughter Josephine who shows in census with her in 1860 in Perry
Co, IN)
In 1861 she married and showed on 2 pages of book #2:
Kitty E Letcher Wm Courtney Perry 2 588
her marr #2
Kitty Ellen Letcher Wm Courtney 6 Jul 18- - Perry 2 584
her marr #2
Although it didn't show the year, all the marriages around those pages were
for first to middle of 1861
Since there were numerous Wm Courtney persons who served in the civil war
and one dying in Tenn it is possible he died during the war or was one of
those who deserted and never was heard from again.
Civil War - possibles for William Courtney:
William Courtney Co D 1st Regiment, Indiana Cavalry Union Indiana Private
from Posey Co, IN; enlisted Aug 20, 1861; deserted Mar 18, 1863
William Courtney Co K 6th Regiment, Indiana Infantry Union Indiana
Private
William Courtney Co D 31st Regiment, Indiana Infantry Union Indiana
Private
William Courtney Co I 87th Regiment, Indiana Infantry Union Indiana
Private from Tippecanoe, IN; enlisted Sep 12, 1864; deserted Dec 12, 1862
William C. Courtney Co C 36th Regiment, Indiana Infantry Union Indiana
Private
William M. Courtney Co A 33rd Regiment, Indiana Infantry Union Indiana
Private doesn't show where from - just enlisted Apr 16, 1865; mustered out
Jul 21, 1865
William H. Courtney Co A 116th Regiment, Indiana Infantry (6 months, 1863-4)
Union Indiana
William H. Courtney Co G 135th Regiment, Indiana Infantry (100 days, 1864)
Union Indiana Private
from Tippecanoe Co, IN enlisted May 23, 1864; d Sep 2, 1864 Nashville, TN
cem:
Name: William H Courtney
Service Info.: PVT INFANTRY CIVIL WAR
Death Date: 2 Sep 1864
Cemetery: Nashville National Cemetery
Cemetery Address: 1420 Gallatin Road, South Madison, TN 37115
Buried At: Section F Site 3768
Now since there was divorce back then (just as we have now) it is also
possible that they divorced or he just died -- don't have any of the
cemetery reading books so maybe someone here could see if they see William
Courtney or Robert Letcher being shown with deaths before she remarried,
etc.
Then I had her 3rd marriage as being:
Kitty Ellen Scott James R C Richards 28 Mar 1869 Perry 3 579
her marr #3
Also I see that just before Josephine marries to David Powell:
Josephine Letcher David Powell 2 Jul 1879 Perry 5 128
that she is on the 1870 census with a Richards and this family is old
enough to be James Richards' father while Kitty is shown on the 1870 census
not far from them with her husband James Richards. Possible that Josephine
was visiting when census taker came around or because since they were
"newlyweds" that Josephine was living with James' relatives for a bit.
Don't know if the first marriage is true or some of these suppositions of
Letchner and Courtney dying are true, but can't find another person who
matches to the one marrying Letchner, and since Josephine (her daughter) is
with her then it is a good possibility that this marr #1 is correct for her.
Take care,
Judy M.
