WOW!!! I've been searching for two years for descendansts of your
husband's family!!! And you have a family bible for... (containing my
excitement). OK Cuz (your husband anyway)... here's what I
know...sorry for the redundent details for others on the list who may
have heard this before...
My GGG-Grandfather was Wilhelm (William) NOLD (b. 1/1/1803 in Prussia).
He and his brother George NOLD (b. 1801) immigrated to Louisville, KY
around 1841 and the descendants of these two is pretty well known (all
in Louisville).
Family lore stated that these two were joined by two other brothers but
little was know about them or what became of theme. When I started my
research, all I had to go by was that "John George NOLD" had married a
"Mary ZELLER" on 4/28/1845 in Lousville, KY and George NOLD was a
witness. The assumption has always been that he "John George" was one
of the two brothers. With the help of someone on this list, I have
pictures of the gravesites of George and Mary in Perry County along
with some of their children (I can send them to you if you'd like).
The odd thing is that John was born around 1823. This is somewhat
later than what I assume to be his brothers so I haven't figured out
for sure how they are connected. I'm still working on the assumption
that they are all brothers.
The fourth NOLD was found living in Rock Island, IL. "George Henry
NOLD" was born in 12/2/1825 in the same small town as "John George",
and the two Louisville NOLD's - Wilhelm and George - Mengers, Kreis
Heunfeld, Prussia, Germany - so the assumption again is that they were
brothers. (have no proof of that though)
So...what I found was that John George NOLD and Mary ZELLER NOLD had
nine children. They are:
Sophia b. abt 1846
Francis b. abt 1848
George b. abt 1849
Mary Jane b. 5/11/1851
John b. abt 1/11/1853
Catherine b. abt 1855
Caroline b. abt 1857
Adeline b. abt 1859
Louisa b. Sep, 1862
Thus far I had found married names of only two of the women:
Mary Jane married Francis Louis EBERLE and Louisa married Philip
SCHANK. I've followed some of the SCHANK tree down to the current
family of SCHANK's living in Louisville, but ran into a dead in with
the EBERLE children.
So as you can see, your husband's family adds a whole new line to what
I've found. Awesome! So..back to the family bible you spoke about.
Any additional insight? I've been trying for years to find some
current descendants of this NOLD family that has some proof of their
ties together. There are very, very few outside of the Louisville, KY
NOLD's and I think I have as much info as is available.
Send me any missing and PLEASE let me know which family bible you
have!!
Thanks
Bob Nold

Bob,
I would love to have any information you have on Sophia NOLD ARNOLD.
She was my husband's GGrandmother. His dad spoke of her often but
never
mentioned siblings. Of course he was small when he knew her. I have
the family
bible and Census records for her. I knew her father was George but
did
not know
her mother's name.
In various records I have found the name spelled as NOLD, NALD, NOLE.
She is buried in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery here in Owensboro, Kentucky.
I have the book for that Cemetery and would be glad to send you the
information
from that.
In the 1891-92 Owensboro Family Directory she was listed as Mrs T H
Arnold widow
residing with M. Lizzie, Nicholas (My husband's grandfather) and
Caroline.
at 123 West Seventh Street. These were three of her children. She
had
six children.
