20 "Home Guard" Companies Were Formed for Local Protection in Perry Co, IN.
According to the Adjutant General, ALL Home Guard personnel were considered as serving in
the war THE SAME as those who served in the other outside regiments, and entitled to all
the benefits, and were classified as the 5th Reg Ind Inf "Legion". The
homeguard units for Perry Co, IN were:
Anderson Guards
Cannelton Artillery
Clark Sharpshooters
Deutscher Jaeger
Emmet Guards
Hickory Rangers
Hoosier Wildcats
Lyon Artillery
Newcomb's Guards 90+ men, rank and file
Oil Grays
Oil Rifles
Perry Rifles
Rome Legion
Tell City Artillery
Tell City Rifles
Tobin Guards
Troy Artillery
Union Grays
Union Guards
Voltiguers
As I find the names of these persons in the various units I always put them in my military
page area but so far haven't seen mention of Andreaus "Andrew" Speidel - but
will look around and see what I can find. All of the names from the Perry Co, IN History
books I haven't gone through so he may be listed there or in one of the other books I
haven't stopped to look at.
