Hello everyone,
I'm hoping someone can help me track down what happened to Mary Jane
HARVEY.
Evelyn from the Tell-City Co. Public Library was nice enough to try to help
me but so far we haven't had any luck.
Mary Jane was born MARY JANE BENNETT Sept 12, 1823, daughter of Sarah
Hardin
Bennett and Charles Bennett. MARY JANE married Robert Stephenson, son of
early pioneers, John Stephenson and Nancy Hardin Stephenson who lived in
Dexter/Derby area. When Robert died very young MARY JANE was left a widow
with a small 1 year old daughter. I find her first living with her mother
in the 1850 Census and listed as a widow, then with her father-in-law John
Stephenson in 1860.
Then I believe MARY JANE STEPHENSON widow) married William R. Harvey on Aug
4, 1864 (using Perry Co. Marriage Records as reference)
She shows up with William R. Harvey in the 1880 Census in Perry County at
age 58 which coincides with her birthdate of 1823 nicely. Then she
disappears.
Evelyn at the library checked for any Harvey obituaries in their index and
found nothing. There is also nothing found in both the Perry and Spencer
Counties for the 1900 Census so they must have moved away, nor anything in
the Cemetery indexes.
So hoping someone can give me a lead??? Where could the Harvey's have
gone??? In 1880 they had 3 children living with them: William, Emma and
Josephine along with 2 grandchildren.
Also hoping someone could check the newspaper microfilm at the Tell City
Libary for a date close to William and Mary's marriage date of Aug 4,
1864.
I was hoping their might be some sort of marriage announcement.
Thanks so much!
