Sad story that I never thought would happen to my family. As I view the
auctions on e-bay, I am amazed at the Bibles that show up for sale that have
genealogical information in them. How could families let this treasure be
taken away from them. I feel the urge to buy these up and try to return them
to the families who have lost them - starting a "Bible Genealogy Project"
returning these orphaned records to their homes.
I have been searching for the Engelbrecht Bible for some time. It came to
America in 1845 with the Engelbrecht family that traveled to Spencer County
from Germany. Last year I got a lead and found that it had been with a
family, and when I talked with the mother, she told me she had sent it to
her son who enjoyed old books. I just talked with him, and after looking for
it, thinks he may have placed it with other old books he got rid of at
auction when he moved from Spencer Co.
Please - anyone in the area keep an eye out for it - the rest of you who
have your family Bibles- guard them with your lives.
