Sorry, been out of town.
Did not see Susan Smitson or Ernest Smitson in Perry Co. Cemetery records
Did find an Ernest Smitson on 1920 census
Don't know if this is any help
1920 Genesee Co., Michigan Census, Flint Ward 5, ED 43
515-222-271
Smitson, Ernest....lodger...mw...21...s...IN OH IN...labor-auto factory
(living with Henry C. Thompson family and many other lodgers - none with Indiana history)
I believe that he was a Primitive Baptist Preacher - going on memory now since I can't remember where most of my notes on my Bolin family are (still have probably 50 to 100 boxes and bags to unpack and find location to place since the move). Pretty sure that Anderson Bolin became preacher and I am pretty sure it was the same church that Uriah Cummings was preacher there too; and memory seems to be that it was same one that both his aunt, Charity (Kinder) Sandage Bolin and his mother, Rebecca (Kinder) Bolin, went. But memory may be wrong.

Building a website is a piece of cake.
Yahoo! Small Business gives you all the tools to get online.
http://www.rootsquest.com/~jmurphy/perry/perr_mil_civwar.htm
The picture and names (of those we have gotten identified already) is at the above address.
The picture and article I am still hunting for is one I have been told by many people that had been in the newspaper right around the turn of the century and they were sitting on bleachers and supposed to be part of the turn of the century (1899 to 1900) celebration and were supposed to be ALL the county civil war persons still alive.
But if anyone can help me with identifying the others in the picture I aready have online (at above link) I would appreciate knowing this too.
Of course, if anyone wants to ever share some of their family photos (whether it is military person or just a family member) I am ALWAYS willing to put these on my website so other researchers of the families can view them too -- I just have to have your permission (or whoever owns the copyright of this photo if it was made or changed since the 1940s) so I can put it online. Any names that goes with the photos are always wanted, but if you don't know who it is I can put in the mystery photos where I am trying to find names of these individuals in the various photos.
My best,
Judy Sandage Murphy

Judy,
Is there anyway that I can see the picture you are referring too. I
have Civil War relatives that were still in Perry County at this time

Hi Pat,
The names on the one picture that was taken with them sitting in chairs (ones identified so far), etc are:
Anderson Preacher Bolin,
Charles Hess,
Awk Hemphill,
Jim Lillpop,
Bob Boultinghouse,
Squire Robinson,
Larry Hicks,
W. M. Sanders,
Ben Hemphill,
Bill Johnson,
Bob McMann,
Tobe Sprinkle,
William Henry Lance
Now I understand the newspaper picture and article was of the civil war vets still alive and they were sitting on bleachers (not chairs) so I am assuming that one or more of these may be there - was told by several that this photo and article had been taken right at the turn of the century (1899 to 1900) and was supposed to be part of the celebration. Wish I could tell you more, but the picture where I had some of the names were also of civil war vets so assuming this was before or after the other pic that was supposed to have been in the newspaper -- wish I could help more - just going on what others have told me and I would LOVE to have article and picture and any names that went with it.
Thanks for your help,
Judy M.

Judy,
Is there a name of any individual that would maybe be in that picture? Maybe narrow down the looking.

Hi Pat
I was wondering if you ever have time to see if you can locate a newspaper article about the civil war men who were said to have gotten together right around 1900 and they were supposed to have had a picture in the newspaper with all of them sitting on bleachers. Would love to have this picture and article.
Also, if you go to the following address:
http://www.rootsquest.com/~jmurphy/perry/military.htm
There may have been a newspaper article of this particular gathering too with the names of the people there too - some I have gotten identified but still so many missing - perhaps older persons in the community might know their names - but I have no way of contacting any of the American Legion, VFW, genealogical society, etc or the library (who may have even the article or pic itself with the names. I got this picture from the man who runs the Historical Society in Tell City and it didn't have the names or date it was taken.
Anything you can find would be helpful. Thanks a million,
Judy Sandage Murphy

James, this was very helpful information -- thank you so much.? In addition to tracing Ruth A. Burr back to her parents in Belmont County, Ohio in 1850, this got me going on the trail of Emma (Wendell) (Enlow) Taylor, who went to Warrick and then Gibson Counties.? I have also tracked down the Minnie (Wendell) Vandiver family in the censuses as it trekked from Perry County to White County, IL, to Dunklin Co., MO and finally to White Co., AR.
But Susan (Wendell) Smitson kind of disappears after 1900.? I have not turned up a death, burial, or re-marriage for her or her son Ernest, nor can I find her in subsequent censuses.? Do any of your cemetery or death index sources show either of these folks?
Thank you!
