Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
No, Kim it isn't a joke - having my erinet persons and also rootsweb persons trying to figure out why everything I send to the list gets the message deleted and is blank -- yet I can cc to an email address and they receive the entire message. Only messages going to the list is having this problem - all other messages I send has no problems whatsoever -- and is happening on INPERRY, INSPENCER and INGIBSON all three lists.
I also see as administrator of the list that everyone who has written to the list in the past several days is getting a lot of these messages bounced into the delete area saying that xxxx(a)xxx.com isn't receiving messages -- yours included.
They are trying to figure out what is going on with the system and only way to try and see if it (message) will show up on the list is to keep trying it again and again when they tell me to do so -- had total of 6 msgs that I have to keep sending but now that I sent directly to everyone's email address then only the ones coming from the list itself should be blank.
Sorry - but lots of problems apparently with the system and especially everything I send -- which is really strange since administrators are supposed to be able to send messages even when other persons can't -- really strange.

I have been having problems for about 4 days where everytime I write a message it gets to rootsweb and that system wipes out the message leaving only the header - been working with tech support but only way to actually test it is by sending message to see if it gets through or not. When I send to the list and also to a cc or bcc address (some specific address other than the list address) the message is received as it should be (everything in it) but message going to the list becomes blank. They can't figure it out yet and keep trying many things. Second problem is that EVERYONE who has written a message to the list in past 4 to 6 days gets some of their messages sent back to the administrator of the list (me) showing that that email address is rejecting the messages. Have tracked it and so far have had one or more bounces from each person who sent in messages. They are trying to get that fixed too -- you have been getting only some of the messages, not all of them when this
occurs.
I am not doing this to mess up the list and will have to go in and delete these (I believe administrators still have this right) as soon as the problem is resolved -- they are using these emails and info in them (headers, etc) to see if they can figure it all out and resolve the issue.
Please be patient -- we have already ruled out my machine (did virus scan as well as used 3 different email programs and 3 different computers), ruled out my erinet server, and many other things. I even tried unsubscribing and resubscribing as they requested and it still did not resolve the problem.
Thanks for your patience - and hopefully this will get through today since I haven't tried sending a message for almost 24hrs now and hopefully they have problem resolved.
My best to everyone,
Judy Sandage Murphy

Thanks Linda --
Actually it wasn't Reid but me sending a message after I subscribed under his name and address and then unsubscribed -- trying to be sure it isn't one of the machines or email program doing this. Erinet said that they think rootsweb has either scrubbed all message text out or partially blocked email from erinet and its users OR blocked / partially blocked jmurphy(a)erinet.com address since my messages going through only from other addresses (I tried from yahoo and cinci.rr.com both -- yet occurs on jmurphy(a)erinet.com addresses only which is my main address.
I had already tried making sure not virus or messages being sent in html format and were indeed TEXT -- subscribed and unsubscribed too and everything the techies tell me to do.
Reid is man I live with (significant other I guess you could say). Thanks for your help -- I know you have always been wonderful in helping me and others on the list and usgenweb project.
They are trying to also figure out the bouncing I am getting from only some of the messages going out to list members and only seem to be occurring off and on to ones who have written recently to the list -- like yours said:
Your mail to the following recipients could not be delivered because they are not accepting mail from lclang(a)consolidated.net:

Now rootsweb said try again I'll use this reply and see if it goes through, but will also bcc you so you will see 2 messages the same -- one thru the list and one directly to your address -- we'll see if both go through okay or if one is blank.
My best to you and hope you aren't going to get inundated with rain this coming week -- everyday here is expected to rain and have had spotty rain last 3 days -- and we JUST had the roof leaks repaired 4 days ago (just in time (smile)).
Bye,

The home guards were given all the same status as the active duty when it came to the pensions, etc. and they were considered assigned to a specific Indiana Infintry group - but can't recall which one - but the 35th Rgmt wasn't it. According to the Adjutant General, ALL Home Guard personnel were considered as serving in the war THE SAME as those who served in the other outside regiments, and entitled to all the benefits, and were classified as the 5th Reg Ind Inf "Legion". Many of the home guard persons DID end up joining the other infantry and cavalry units and vice versa.
Was there a specific person you were trying to find in the 35th or the home guards?

I believe the actual books are in the National Archives in Washington, DC with a copy at each state's courthouse in the vital statistics area but may be wrong about this. I do know that they are on microfilm and microfiche and can be purchased or borrowed from an LDS library in your locality - if you purchase it you can take home and bring with you to any place that has a microfilm or microfiche reader (most libraries have these), if you rent them then they have to stay at the library you rented it from. Many genealogy libraries (other than LDS ones) and historical libraries also have means where you can purchase or borrow through them various microform items including census', vital statistic items, history books, newspapers, etc.

Jerry,
I do a Perry Co, IND website at:
http://www.usroots.com/~jmurphy/perry/perry.htm
I try to put births, deaths, marriages, etc. in there as I find them and have time to type this up. When I can't find a birthdate through a record from courthouse or health department I sometimes can find this date in a history book or some other place where it mentions it - when found I put it online even though before the recorded births, etc.
There is also a website for every county in every state through the USGenWeb Project - go to this address:
http://www.usgenweb.org
choose the state you are seeking by clicking on picture or name - then choose the county you are seeking and you will find many things on the various webpages. One requirement is each MUST have a query area where you can read old queries about persons seeking specific family members and where you can put questions there too.
You can go to http://www.rootsweb.com and go to the list or message/query area and you can read the old messages and search for names there too.
Just out of curiousity - why are you doing a query in the Perry Co, IN website - did your Perry Co, KY persons move or live at any time in Perry Co, IN??? If so, send us some of the info you know about the Perry Co, IN persons you need help with and maybe someone here can help you or maybe they are a "cousin" of yours or searching the same names/families and can help you this way too.
My best,
Judy M.

On May 6, 1935, the Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) was created to help provide economic relief to the citizens of the United States who were suffering through the Great Depression. Many of the various birth, death, marriages, etc. throughout the USA were transcribed (typed up and put into book form as well as indexed) from the original documents in the various courthouses and health departments. Many of those documents were only on little 3x5 cards or in large books. Their work is what gives us genealogists so many leads and help in finding information about our ancestors. Unfortunately not all the records were done and most were only for approx 1882 to 1910 or 1920 so many of the very early ones still have to be found in various localities and places (circuit court and probate court records, family Bibles, history books, church records (many births are found this way), etc.
Ancestry.com and familytreemaker.com as well as genealogy.com often have these books where you can look up this info - but unfortunately they are pay sites - pay by week, month or year -- and most of us can't afford this, so we have others look up the info for you by asking on this list specifics -- for instance your asking about Anna Dean and John Johnson gave enough info that persons can look that up - just asking for all Dean or all Johnson info in a specific county is next to impossible even though many persons would like to do it they just don't have the time and sometimes resources to do that.
You can go down to your local LDS (Latter Day Saints church aka Morman) and see if they have any microfilm or microfiche for the county you are looking in -- if not you can rent them from Utah and view them at your local LDS library. All the LDS churches has a separate library facility for genealogy research and they know that persons going there are not always Mormans so they respect your religious beliefs and don't preach to you or anything but they WILL help you with genealogy questions and anything to do with things like that. If you rent a microfiche then it stays in your local LDS library while the microfilms are sent back to the main lending library in Utah. So if same thing is on film and microfiche I always get the microfiche because then I can look at it again and again without having to rent it each time.
I also try to look up through microfiche, microfilm, online, county courthouses, health departments, etc when I have "spare time" and put online at my Perry Co, IN, Spencer Co, IN and Gibson Co, IN websites.

Since nothing is in message area from my erinet account and Rootsweb can't figure out WHY (I am sending in text so that isn't problem) I will send the messages that were blanked out at this time since this email of mine IS working okay. I AM aware of the problem as is the tech support areas is; thank you all for your patience in this matter/Judy Sandage Murphy
Do you know where she was in 1900 census? Was she ill then or with her husband and children?
I did find that she also had a daughter, Maggie May Johnson, born 13 Jan 1895 Perry Co, IN
In 1900 census I did see 2 Dean families in Perry Co:
Charles H Dean b ca 1843 NH and his son, George R. Dean, b ca 1875
also
Richard Dean b ca 1838 IN & his wife, Nancy
She is probably living with one of her siblings who married but until you find the name it would be hard to know who she was with -- maybe someone in the county can look up the newspaper for 1903 and see if they see an obit for her and mention of the funeral, etc.

Hi Reid,
On my Perry County INGenWeb site, about half way down or so, is a link to
the former Perry County webpage that Judy Sandage Murphy had. Check that
page and see what she has listed for her family on that page.
Also, I'll be making a trip to Perry county in October and can do a lookup
for you, if you don't find what you are looking for before then.
I'm getting in a film from the FHC on an index of marriages, so I can check
that for you too. Plus, I'll be putting the index up on the webpage soon
after I get it.

The Sandage family moved to Perry Co, Indiana from Union Co, SC - there were 3 brothers and the parents. Does anyone know of the whereabouts and descendancy of the brother that stayed in Union Co, SC?
Also wondering if anyone has found the marriage of Nathan and Mary (Canady/Kenedy) and parents of these 3 boys (verified proof)?
Thanks,
Reid
