Indiana State Rep. Bottorff has accepted our invitation to speak at our
Saturday, February 6, 1999 meeting of the Clark County Cemetery Preservation
Committeee.
The timing couldn't be better. Wednesday, 1/27/99, several of us went to
Indianapolis to testify before the Senate Committee on Governmental and
Regulatory Affairs.
The House of Representatives' Committee on Agriculture, Natural Resources
and Rural Development hearing on SIX cemetery bills pending before the House
has been postponed from Monday, 02/01/99, to:
Monday, February EIGHTH (8th), 1999
in the House Chambers
(third floor of the State House; east side)
The House Committee hearings will begin immediately upon conclusion of the
general meeting of the House of Representatives, which is scheduled to begin
at 1:00 P.M. Since they cannot predict when that session will be over, they
cannot pinpoint the time for the cemetery bills hearings to begin.
Two days before the House Committee hearings, Rep. Bottorff is expected to
join us at our February meeting of the CCCPC in Carr Township, at the
Pleasant View Methodist Church on Highway 60/111, near entrance to Deam's
Lake, south of Borden. We hope he can explain to us the status of Indiana
law with respect to pioneer cemeteries as well as his thoughts on the six
bills pending in the House and the two pending in the Senate.
The meeting starts at 2:00 P.M. and, after the meeting, we will visit a
couple of cemeteries in Carr Township. Dan Johnson has obtained permission
for us to visit Hagest Cemetery, which Dan and his wife Betty restored not
long ago.
The cemeteries in Carr Township include:
Allen Cemetery (a/k/a Jenkins Cemetery)
Hagest Cemetery (a/k/a Keibler Cemetery and Hitch Cemetery)
Hickory Grove Cemetery
Merrill-Ward Cemetery
Miller Cemetery
The 2/6/99 meeting should prove very interesting and informative. This is a
unique opportunity to meet Rep. Bottorff and talk with him about our concerns.
Hope you can join us.
