I've decided that I'm going to prepare a handout for our appearance before
the House of Representatives on Monday, February EIGHTH. (Remember, we are
NOT appearing on February 1st, as originally scheduled.)
Those of you who have web access and who have Adobe Acrobat on your system
(the program you had to install and use to print out the Petition in PDF
format) can take a look at the first couple of pages at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~inpcrp/HouseHandout.PDF
I've only put a couple of hours into this and it is a long way from done.
Since I plan to do a major "crash and burn" on Saturday (meaning I've had a
brutal week at work and I may not get out of bed at all tomorrow!), I
thought I'd post it on the website and get your initial reactions to this draft.
My husband is going to have a stroke when I start printing a bunch of copies
of these on his color printer, but I really believe that we are going to
have to hit these people between the eyes with "demonstrative evidence" to
get the point across. I honestly believe that they are oblivious to the
seriousness of the situation.
Any of you planning on testifying on 2/8/99 may want to see what kind of
exhibits you can come up with. I think we need to box-car them with the truth!
When I start digging through my digital archives, I know I'm going to find
quite a few more excellent examples of cemetery abuse and neglect. I'm
going to go and get better pictures of Grayson Cemetery in Clark County in
the next few days because it is the most pathetic one I've ever seen. (It's
across the road from the blacktopped cemetery.)
Teenage vandals dug up a woman's body some 100 years after her death and
paraded around town with her skull. When they got caught, because they were
a prominent doctor's children, they got a slap on the wrist. The hole in
her grave HAS NEVER BEEN FILLED IN. The incident happened THIRTY YEARS AGO
and the property is owned by the City! I'm going to take a yardstick and
put it down in the hole when we take the picture. The rest of the cemetery
is a disaster. Every stone is broken and huge trees lie on top of many of
the graves. It's pretty graphic. (See
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/5881/graysoncem.html, if you're
interested in this one.) Needless to say, I put it on the Hall of Shame.
Good night.
Lois
