Dear Governor OBannon:
This letter is in response to your letter. I am sorry that Ive
taken so long to respond, but your letter was disturbing in so far that
you are NOT acquainted with what is going on with some of the people in
your cabinet and what kind of double dealing that is going on there, or
one real bad case of apathy. I have no idea how many people that has
written to you about what is going on out here, especially in the rural
areas !!! I am coping the last paragraph and only time you barely
touched on the subject in your letter..
From your letter
With regards to your concerns about cemeteries, I would suggest
contacting your local legislators and express your concerns to them. Any
change in current Indiana law must be initiated by the legislature. If
you have not done so already, I would also recommend that you contact
the Indiana Association of County Commissioners forrecommend that you
contact the Indiana Association of County Commissioners for possible
assistance. They may be contacted at: One North Capitol, Suite
1111,Indianapolis, In. 46204
Gov. OBannon, I am just one of many that have been trying to get
some
response from the many ( supposedly ) responsible govt. offices, it is a
standard joke about getting D.N.R.& State Division of Historical
Preservation, 402 W. Washington St.,Room 274, Indianapolis , Ind.
46204. Dr. James Glass,& Amy Johnson doing anything to help. The county
commissioners associations is one of the culprits that is stopping
anylegislation to protect our Pioneer Cemeteries. True, a lot of our
pioneers were buried inthe backwoods which now is on privet property.
These graves are being bulldozed andplowed up and the bones scattered.
NO ONE seems to give a damn, the government seems to be saying its OK
for some greedy farmers , coal miners and construction people and
vandals too destroy someones grave. What is going to happen to your
Mother & Fathers graves in the future is something isnt now??? You
have a chance to do something to stop the carnage if you will?
We know there are some laws that were passed by 1968 legislators
that were agood start, they established the Cemetery Commissioners that
the COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MAY appoint Cemetery Commissioners, but most
wont appoint the CEMETERY COMMISSIONERS, but we need a few changes
starting with ONE WORD. Change the word may to shall or will. Some of
us went before a senate committee to let them know what is going on, but
a lobbyist for Township Trustees cut our throat after we were gone.
We have E-MAIL and we are scattered over the state. We have all
kinds of horror stories that have come to our attention from all over the
state. You name a county and we can give you horror stories from there.
If you dont believe me , then give us an E-mail address?
