Excellent point, Scott. I get so weary seeing the "bad press" on
cemeteries when what's mainly reported is vandalism. It gives the impression
that cemeteries are only frequented by funerals and hooligans while completely
ignored for the history, art and heritage they contain (except on Memorial
Day).
I also believe that reporting vandalism only makes cemeteries a seemingly
easy target for desecration when others see what a commotion they can cause
and usually get away with it. I wish there was a lot more press on the
restorative efforts, but they won't know if we don't let them know it's going
on! Could even scare up more volunteers to assist with the work.
Thanks for a great post on the different kinds of vandals.
All best,
