We did some research on this option here in Morgan County. To do so
someone (the property owner probably) would have to pay for the deed filing
(not a huge sum) and a survey (a larger sum). Then the county would have
to be persuaded to take it - everyone (including the County Recorder) is
pretty sure that it would be deeded back to the county, not the township
(although we're all a little fuzzy on this).
The county would be losing in two ways:
1) they'd have to take care of it via the township trustee
2) they'd lose the land from the tax rolls
Bottom line: the chance of the county being willing to take it is probably
slim, at least in this very conservative tax-conscious county. I'm sure
the case is true in others also.

I'm curious if anyone has been successful in getting a Township Trustee to
ACCEPT a "donation" of a cemetery. I've never approached this situation
with a Trustee, but my first reaction is will the Trustee refuse to accept
it because doing so would increase his/her responsibilities.
I'm REALLY interested in whether anyone has had any luck with this.
