Here is a letter that I sent out a few years ago, but CBS didn't air it.
The Columbus paper printed it. One guy had a dozer parked in the edge
of a cemetery and he really got hot, but he moved the dozer and so far he
he hasn't had it in the cemetery sense. I didn't mention his name, but
he knew who I was talking about.
See what you can do with this letter?
Dear Sir:
Here we are again at memorial day when we are supposed
to honor and show respect to the our heros of yesteryears,
that gave us our freedom from England, but all I see, with
few exceptions, is the disrespect and dishonor that this
nation as a whole is giving them, by allowing their graves
to be desecrated and turned into hog lots and corn fields.
Today there are people that are plowing up these graves and
no one is trying to stop them. There are laws to stop this
from happening, but no one is trying to stop them.
In the early days (1775-1812-1865) of this country, the
soldiers were buried in a place where they fell. These were
not national cemeteries, but were back woods burial sites
and should be shown the same respect and care as a national
cemetery.
We could have cemetery commissioners that would take
care of these old cemeteries, but the county commissioners
are supposed to appoint the cemetery commissioners, but are
dragging their feet. The way it is now, the township
trustees are supposed to be taking care of them. Some of
the trustees don't care and are allowing the cemeteries to
be plowed and bulldozed in violation of Indiana State law.
20ft. of a cemetery here has been plowed every year. I can show several
that has
been desecrated.
We need a Federal Law protecting the cemeteries that have at
least one Veteran buried in them. Prosecute and make the
ones responsible restore and maintain them for 5yrs, or go
to jail for 5yrs or/and both.
I would like to hear from anyone, and need your help in
this fight.
Yours Respectfully
