Dear INPCRP Friends:
Well, I guess as "Assistant State Coordinator" it's my place to speak up
here.
First, I wish Scott all the best and presume he will stay in touch with us
via Rootsweb and e-mail.
Second, the next 5-1/2 weeks are going to be absolutely frantic for me. At
the moment, I am about 2 weeks behind in reading (much less answering) my
incoming e-mail. I squeezed out enough time to prepare for my Clark County
Cemetery Preservation Committee meeting on 10/3/98, but that was a real
push. Don't have a clue how I'm going to be ready for the November 7th
meeting. Also, I have to be in New Albany, IN and New Washington, IN
simultaneously on that day. Haven't figured out yet how I'm going to do that!
On Sunday evening, Nov. 22, 1998, I plan on getting a few hours sleep.
Until then, however, I am absolutely focused on research, editing and
transcribing 19th Century church records as I finish the Bicentennial
History of our church -- the first Protestant church in Indiana. When the
book goes to press on 11/2/98, I have to finish the visual presentation for
the Bicentennial service. I've also got a huge mailing to prepare to do a
church and media blitz on the event.
Bottom line, I need to hear from all of you to find out what we need to do
next with respect to the continuation of the INPCRP. I do ask, however,
that you send your messages to the group (INPCRP-L(a)rootsweb.com) rather than
to me personally so we can keep the dialogue going.
Assuming you are all interested in keeping this thing alive, I think our
next focus should be drafting the Petition to the General Assembly
concerning the deplorable state of Indiana's cemetery laws. We started
talking about this a couple of months ago, but nothing ever materialized.
I've missed several excellent opportunity to collect petition signatures
since late summer and really can't stand by and watch another legislative
session pass us by. We have several contacts in the state who are running
for State Reps who can be extremely useful to us and who have indicated that
they want to help.
Please write to the group address with your suggestions for the Petition
language.
Also, as we proceed with our next step, I will need a couple of you to step
forward to volunteer to help, especially until my 11/22/98 crisis is over.
Can someone manage the INPCRP e-mail group and someone else be responsible
for the website? Scott, perhaps it would be best for you to provide me with
the requisite passwords, URLs, etc. I guess we'll decide later whether we
can keep this thing alive.
Managing the e-mail group is not difficult; mostly you have to
contend with occasional bounced mail. Rootsweb has a great
system for explaining most everything you need to know to
handle that process.
Well, I have a mountain of things to do right now, so I'll sign off for now.
Scott, we're gonna MISS YOU, guy! Stay in touch and all the best of luck to
you and yours.
Lois Mauk
