Subject: cemeteries
To Whom It May Concern:
I am involved with the restoration of a Pioneer Cemetery in our little town
of Lebanon OR. It has been placed on the National Register of Historical
Properties. This will give it some protection but only until someone or
some project comes along that is more important than the final resting
places of our loved ones.
I was quite dismayed when I discovered that the Indiana cemetery where my
ancestors were interred had been bulldozed to clear a forest. This was a
church cemetery, "Old Pleasant Hill Methodist Cemetery" in Hendricks
county. This destruction occurred in 1967.
Oregon, through the hard work of the Oregon Historic Cemeteries
Association and legislator, Kenneth Mannix, is trying to legislate some new
laws that would protect all our cemeteries. Our state is leading the way
in the West. I hope Indiana will be the Champion of the MidWest.

Executive Director of the OHCA at her email address
