Can anyone give me some information on how someone can start their

cemetery on land that they own?
Angelia,
A family here in Floyd co. owned several acres and someone mentioned putting
a cemetery on it. They decided that instead of paying for a burial site they
would put that much in an escrow account and all family members and relatives
no matter how distant would be buried there. That would avoid there being
buried all over southern Indiana. They started about 20 odd years ago, and when
there is a death in the family the Funeral Home has a procession like at any
other cemetery. Everything is going fine. I don't know about the law (They don't
either) and they have operated like any other cemetery. They do not advertise,
and do not sell lots to anyone not related to the family. Really they don't
sell the lots, a family member makes a donation to get someone buried there.
Right or wrong, it,s working. It's in the hills up on top of a big one. I have
been to see it and was told it was private. The family has maintained it, and
all relatives of those buried there say that some family members will maintain
it for ever?
So far there has been 100 percent cooperation. It is not listed in the
counties cemetery index. They don't advertise the name of it. Its one of the most
well kept, (its fenced off) in the county. I don't bother them !!
