Hello Rhonda,
I appreciated reading your letter and have held the Miami Indian Cemetery
close most of my life.....I don't know what it is but the Tribal Office does
not welcome or at least this is my take,,,,,,,accept much outside
help........at least of recent times.....I go back many years when the
Marion Lions Club became involved in restorative projects out at the site
back in the late 30's or 40's....A Masonic group, the Fisher Body Craft Club
was instrumental in making the first contribution to preservation of the
Miami Indian School House of which I was a member of that first Committee.,
I grew up with several Miami Indian descendants and became very close to
these friends as a child.....I attended the re-dedication of the School
House and was even challenged as to my credentials for attending.....by a
member. It made those of us helping to park cars and assist wonder if we
were welcome....
I applaud your efforts and hope you continue to offer help in restoring a
heritage which we all are a part.....especially here in Grant County and
Central Indiana.

I would like to thank everyone who offered to help repair the
vandalized
Miami Indian cemetery here in Grant County. I left repeated messages with
the tribal office and received no calls back from them. I heard this
morning
from a library staff member who lives next to the cemetery that the tribe
was there doing the repairs themselves and using a power washer. So, I
would
guess that they are not interested in our help. If I hear anything
different, I'll let you all know. I appreciate all the offers of help that
I
received, it is great to know so many caring people are on this list.
