Cheryl:
Thanks for your report on the Committee meetings on Monday. I'm sorry you had
such a long day!
I'm confused about your comment, "it added an exemption for public utilities,
corporations, and municipally owned utilities". What sort of corporations?
Utility corporations, I presume.
I'm concerned about the "special" procedures you mentioned for
"development
plans for governmental entities (no approval by the state if a municipal or
county project that requires a plan)." Obviously they didn't explain this at
the hearing. Does anyone else have any clues or insight about this change?
The revised (1/26/2000) version of House Bill 1184 is on-line in PDF format
at:
http://www.state.in.us/legislative/bills/2000/PDF/HB/HB1184.1.pdf
The PDF versions of the bill provide the line numbers necessary to understand
the changes mentioned in the Committee's report and in Cheryl's earlier
report, which is available at:

I agree with Cheryl that knowledge of the location of a burial ground must be
served upon a property owner lest he/she/it allege ignorance of its existence.
I don't see any mechanism for informing property owners of these locations in
the present legislation.
Also, is there a provision for SHARING this information with the public? I
realize federally protected Native American burial site locations can't be
disclosed, but what about the rest of them?
