We have had a busy summer. Our main project has been Sprinkle Chapel
Cemetery (near Galveston in Cass Co). We (2 or 3 ladies usually) who try
to get out there at least once a week. We have straightened many of the
markers that were leaning, but still have plenty more to do. We have
poulticed and cleaned quite a few, too and still have plenty more left to
clean.
It took me a while to try out the drill in order to drill, peg and epoxy to
repair a broken stone. I just kept worrying about the stone shattering. I
like the drill I selected. It is from Sears and has two rechargeable
batteries with it. It does a very nice job - no fracturing.
We also did a mini workshop at Greenlawn Cemetery at Mexico for the Miami
Co. Genealogical Society. It was all hands-on. They were great and
accomplished alot in a couple of hours.
We really need more volunteers. We have had some financial support that
has taken care of our present financial needs for supplies, but we really
need more warm bodies.
I am located north of Kokomo, so for you northern Indiana listers who are
wanting to learn and haven't been able to make a workshop, we would be
happy to have you come and get some on-the-job-training. I talked with a
local monument dealer last weekend and he is planning to come out and work
with us on Oct. 7.
Email me for time and directions if you would like to participate.
