Hi Sharon and all,
Here in Washington State, about 2.5 years ago, I started gathering the very
same data you are gathering. We've got about 7 complete counties out of
30+ (the others have all the known cemeteries listed but we are still
gathering legal information). It's been a very slow process mainly because
of all the work to do here by so few people (not like Indiana!), but we are
growing in numbers each week.
Our book is considered to be about halfway done and so far comprises of
over 2,500 cemeteries, many with all legal information such as owner, legal
description, physical location with driving directions, contact name and
phone number, where transcription records can be found (3 kinds--hard
copies, online, and who is holding one but hasn't released the information
in full), if the cemetery was relocated-where it was relocated to, plus
more. The information is also added to our web site so people can readily
access it online. Unfortunately, the book is far more complete than the
web site because no one has the time to update the site on a regular basis.
Good luck on your book! Let us know when it's done so we can promote it at
our web site.

I read the postings to this group with great interest. I wish my
health
allowed me to be out there and assist you with your cleaning and
restoration work. Congratulations to all of you who are doing this work.
I am co-chairing the cemetery project for the Indiana Genealogical
Society.
The object of this project is to list the name and location of all
past
and present cemeteries and graveyards in the state of Indiana. IGS
solicited information back in 1991. The chair of the project at that
time
was unable to continue with the project. Two years ago, I received
all
the
materials that he had collected. For some counties, we have
complete
information. For others, there is only a list of the names of the
cemeteries, and we are having to generate the location and directions
from
maps.
We are working on this one county at a time. As of this writing, there
are
two counties that we consider to be finished. Several other are in
the
process. Our ultimate goal is to publish a book with the names,
locations
(government township and geographical section, township, and range),
as
well as driving directions to the location.
We have no good idea when then will be finished. Both of us have retired
in the last year and should be able to spend more time on this project.
We
can use help typing the information we have, adding information for
many
counties, and proofreading the final version. (I am afraid of sending
people down roads that no longer exist.) If you are interested in
helping,
please email me directly.
