Hi Jack,
After reading your article on Rutlands Brick and Stone Cleaner Code 83, I
looked up Rutlands on the Internet and since they said they would answer
questions I asked them about using the product to clean all types of stone
cemetery monuments without damage to the surface of the stone. I received a
response from Jessica Oberg and this is what she wrote:
Mr. Huffman,
Thank you for your e-mail and your interest in Rutland Products!
I am not sure who advised you that our Brick & Stone Cleaner would be
appropriate to clean stone cemetery monuments. We have not done any testing
and don't know what the effects would be. I spoke with our chemist and he
indicated that he would not recommend that you use the brick & stone cleaner
to clean something that is not dirtied by soot, creosote or other by
products of fires. He indicated that while it may work it does not contain
the same detergents as many household cleaners. Its a specialized cleaner
for a specific application.
The chemicals in our Brick & Stone cleaner are mild, however, as with any
chemical you want to exhibit some caution when using it. I hope that this
answers your questions. Should you have any further questions or wish to
discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you again
for your e-mail and for using Rutland Products!
Regards,
Jess

Don,
I appreciate your response. I wont know for sure until after I try the
product on some Scrap Tombstones. I'll let you know what the results of my tests
are.
Thanks
