Well, with the first of this year's cemetery events under our collective
belts, it's time to look ahead to the others.
First of all, in a little less than TWO WEEKS (5/12/2001), we've got the
Fayette County Cemetery Commission Open House coming up in Connersville, IN.
I am REALLY excited about this one because it is way past time to shine a
spotlight on Fayette County for the amazing work they have accomplished there
in a very short period of time.
I hope you'll join us on Saturday morning, May 12, 2001 for a tour of John
Walters' cemetery department facilities, demonstrations of some of his repair
techniques and a bus tour of several Fayette County cemeteries at various
stages of restoration.
If you know a State Legislator, County Council member, County Commissioner or
Township Trustee, I hope you'll take a minute to invite him/her to attend this
Open House to see firsthand how all levels of local government can work
TOGETHER to successfully accomplish the enormously important and rewarding
task of caring for our predecessors' final resting places.
While this is not a true "workshop" as we generally consider them, it will be
an invaluable opportunity to demonstrate to other counties and other townships
what CAN be done! It is particularly important that we get several members of
the General Assembly to attend because a program such as what they have in
Fayette County can be a true role model for the rest of the state.
