Many times (at least 5) we have reported incidents
with no results and never a report was made. Last year I reported that they
were digging 3' deep holes and 24" in diameter in a Catholic Church
cemetery
in Vincennes to plant 25 trees. Amy Johnson's reply was that most burials
are deeper than that. I don't think so! Doc Jones said he would get back
with me. Never did. A conservation officer was called out, but to no avail.
Rich,
I have found one E-mail report doesn't work. You have to make enough
noise that they can't help but hear you. Most send in a report and don't send
a follow up. If you have to send a dozen followups on your problem, do
it..Dr. Jones and Amy Johnson are very happy to disscuss nice Historical
Sites and buildings because we all know a LOT of important people in the
state are interested in these. These same people don't worry about a Grown up
cemetery full of bushes and "Weeds", nor do they see anything wrong with
planting a tree.
The same group the State want's to please like the idea of Trees,
even in a Cemetery. If you have a Double Husband and Wife Burial in a
cemetery Legally they nreed only be covered by 2 feet of dirt. (The depth of
the trees.)One thing I have decided, if the Locations of the cemeteries are
not turned in for the Data Base, I don't think anyone will care. Also
Conservation officers have had no training in dealing with cemeteries. We
really have no way of knowing if they have been out to investigate if you
don't get an answer.
It's a disgrace that a Deer or a Fish gets more closer attention
than our Historic Cemeteries. Fool with those and you go to court. I think
when we ask questions we should get answers. Or are we just spinning our
wheels. The sad part is we can't leave our Ancestors like they are. The State
doesn't seem to appreciate all of the Volunteers that are Helping find the
"Lost" cemeteries. In Closing I beleive Jeannie is doing the best she can.She
can only report. If no one listens she can't help it. This is strictly my
own opinion. Take it our Leave it
