The care of old cemeteries was discussed on this forum a few weeks ago. "To
let it return to nature or keep it cleaned up and cared for." These people
evidently cared for their cemeteries.
News Item From
New Castle Democrat, 1887
The old church building known as the Ebenezer Baptist Church, in Franklin
Township, is, and has been for a considerable time, unoccupied, and is in
the state of decay. The old members of that congregation have been talking
of selling the building, as it seems they are the proper persons to do that
(the trustees all being dead but one, and he having left the Baptist church)
and applying what they realize out of the building in repairing and
beautifying the cemetery. Our opinion, that is the proper thing to do. The
graves of those who have crossed the river of death should be kept green. If
there is anyone interested who has any objections to this proceeding, they
are requested to make them know at once.
