How much stroke do you think she has with Dr. Jones and his band of
Conservation Officers? Many times (at least 5) we have reported incidents
with no results and never a report was made. Last year I reported that they
were digging 3' deep holes and 24" in diameter in a Catholic Church cemetery
in Vincennes to plant 25 trees. Amy Johnson's reply was that most burials
are deeper than that. I don't think so! Doc Jones said he would get back
with me. Never did. A conservation officer was called out, but to no avail.
I'm going to call for the report, but am sure it won't be much. Yesterday, I
heard from the guy who laid the new sidewalks that he found jawbones with
three teeth and other fragments, also a silver spoon used in church service,
but he was told by church officials to keep quiet and keep digging. Never
seen a sidewalk over 6-8" deep. I always figured the chain of command came
down the ladder, not up. They have been doing this for years. In fact they
built the basement of the church library inside the WPA platted burial map,
because the priest, who had only been here a few years said that there was
no one buried there. Was he here 50-150 years ago. When they put in storm
sewers, drains, etc. they dug up remains. Thanks for your advice, but if the
heads of the department don't do their job any better than this, we can't
expect much out of the help.

Jeannie Regan-Dinnus is the Laison between the Public and the DNR now,
as
well as her job with the Cemetery Data Base. Contact her and have her start
the information she needs up the Chain of command. Don't be bashful You
will
have to find out from her exactly what you have to have to put things in
motion. She is very helpful in that respect, Sincerily,

"Show me the manner in which a nation or community
cares for its dead and I will measure with mathematical
exactness the tender mercies of its people, their
respect for the laws of the land, and their loyalty
to high ideals."
