Lois:
Thanks for your information. It is always helpful...many times things I
don't even think about.
Do you know how to get a copy of the Indiana Cemetery Rules/Regulations or
Laws, whatever it may be called? What about the old private owned
cemeteries that are about half-way maintained? We have been working in one
re-setting the old fallen stones which is about 40%. The portion across the
road which we will go to when this is done is about 80% fallen.
Thanks a million....

Subject: [INPCRP] Cemetery Associations and donations
I attended the 128th Annual Meeting of the Silver Creek Cemeterial
Association last weekend (earliest recorded burial there -- 1805) in Clark
Co., IN. This is the cemetery we worked in during our Cemetery
Restoration
Workshop a couple of years ago.
At last year's meeting, I lobbied the Board to invest the money to have a
professional looking sign installed explaining that the cemetery is
maintained strictly through the sale of lots and receipt of donations.
The
sign was installed late last year and includes a mailbox containing
pre-addressed envelopes which visitors can use to send donations to the
Associations.
I'm pleased to report that in less than a year, the cemetery association
has
seen a dramatic increase in the sale of new lots as well as in the
number
and amount of donations received.
My point is that, if you are involved with a cemetery that has an
association, please consider installing signage explaining the need for
donations, contact information re the sale of lots (if applicable) and an
address or pre-addressed envelopes to facilitate the sending in of
donations.
The mild opposition I met with last year was based on the presumption that
"everybody" allegedly knows how to make donations to the Association
and/or
that new lots are available. Apparently "everybody" did
NOT know! Seems
that putting our name and address out there where it was easy to find is
making a difference.
