Jack,
I do several talks a year for genealogy and historical societies. The main
topic of my talks is the importance of saving what is left of these
cemeteries and why. The historic value, the fact that the people buried
there are the ones that cleared the land and made it what it is today. And
especially the genealogical value for family researchers years to come. Once
they are gone, the names of those buried in these cemeteries will be lost
forever.
You will find there will be a lot of interest in what you have to say. My
normal one hour program sometimes last for another hour just trying to
answer all the questions.
Good luck,

Subject: [INPCRP] Historical Societies Information
I have been invited to speak at the Floyd Co. Historical Society
meeting in March. Does the Various Historical Societies in other counties
take an interest in the Older, or Pioneer Cemeteries. Should they join in
with me to try for a cemetery Commission. I don't know exactly how far I
should go in that direction. They have talked about Laws for Pioneer
cemeteries, but as of yet have not made, in my opinion, any concerted effort
to follow up on any of this.
The Southern Indiana Genealogical Society (SIGS) have some
volunteers recording the readily accessible cemeteries and putting these in
book form for sale. But as far as Floyd Co cemeteries go, that is it. In a
year and a half no one from either group have offered any assistance to me.
Nor has anyone else in the county, except Tom Cannon, the New Albany Twp.
Trustee. And that was mostly moral support. If anyone has any ideas how I
should approach the Groups in my talk I would appreciate suggestions. I know
some members but not that well. They know me well enough to ask me to speak.
Thanks for any moral support, or suggestions.
