Marilynn,
I have talked to quite a few monument installers about this in other similar
situations. The way I understand it is they combine epoxy and granite dust
to fill in the 19 and then re cut(sandblast) in the 20_ _ death date.
The only other way I know to do it would be to cut out a square block in the
granite somehow and install a new square granite plug, then cut in the date.
I imagine that would be easier said than done, but those guys are usually
pretty good.
I would check in the Vincennes area if I was you. Ernie Lasley may know of
someone down there in the Gibson county area.

My grandmother pased away in 2001....but the headstone was pre-carved with
19.is there anyway I could locate a good stonecarver near to Princeton
..she
is buried at Maple Hill. My mother is very unhappy with what she
considers
the 'makeshift cover ups" that are on other tombstones in
the cemetery.
My paternal gg'grandfather was a stonecarver of tombstones...mainly
