Lee,
My apologies. I don't think this reply to your message made the list. I sent
it on Sunday following our workshop.
Sorry about all that water. I bet they could have used it on Sunday for the
cleaning. I think the problem was that Mark and Helen didn't know exactly where
they would be in this phase of the total restoration project
when the workshop day arrived.
As a Mt Olivet trustee I can appreciate and agree with your assessment that the
presentation was excellent. The 49 people who attended included 9 trustees and
association members. The other attendees were people mostly from west central
and central Indiana who demonstrated their commitment by paying close attention,
asking excellent questions, and most staying all day. They included several
trustees and genealogists whose interest in family has taken them to this next
logical step: restoring the family tombstones.
You all know about Mark Davis's commitment to restore every veteran's tombstone
he can find. One of the demonstration stones was that of Sgt Wesley Brown of
the 85th Indiana. Civil War authority and author Larry
Liggett attended to give a history of Sgt Brown and his military service, a
particularly fitting inclusion this close to Memorial Day. The white marble
stone was completely repaired and cleaned yesterday.
This workshop was included in a restoration grant that the cemetery association
applied for from the Parke County Community Foundation. The PCCF prioritizes
awards that encourage volunteer effort in the community.
It was a special day at Mt Olivet yesterday, and thanks for being part of it.
Sharon
