Hi Larry:
I'm curious as to your reasons to incorporate a cemetery association. I
believe Indiana statutes grant some legal privleges to cemetery associations, such
as exemption for property taxes. One possible advantage could be the
granting of non-profit status so that contributions are tax deductible. Some
possible disadvantages could be the required corporation filings that may be required
at the state and federal level, as well as a closer oversight on your
financial situation.
As far as software, there are several on the market, but they are designed
for much larger cemeteries than what I'm involved with. I would love to have
one that allows the user to record plot ownership, burials, family information
and even attach obituaries, but it is just not feasible. I simply use
Microsoft Word and Works for ownership/burials and the alphabetized index.
