The Delaware Co Historical Society, Pioneer Cemetery Restoration Committee
is putting together a list of responsibilities that a family/group could be
given when a cemetery is "adopted." Any help you can give would be
appreciated. We are putting flag poles out at all the cemeteries, that is
why we have a question about the "flag" being still there.
If your group has given out "adoption" papers with responsibilities please
get it touch with me and let me know what yours are.

ADOPTING A CEMETERY
The entire community appreciates your offer to adopt the (Name here)
Cemetery. If possible, we would like for you to visit the cemetery at least
once a month and make the following observations:
1. Is the Flag still there and in good condition?
2. Do the grounds need to be mowed?
3. Have any of the tombstones fallen or been damaged?
4. Did you observe anything out of the ordinary?
If you note anything that needs to be taken care of, please notify:
Delaware County Historical Society Phone 282-1550
Township Trustee (Center Township) Phone 288-8876
We would like for you to record the dates that you make your visits so that
if damage is observed it will give us an idea about when it took place. You
may use the bottom half of this form to record your observations.

Mark,
Adoption papers are a great idea! Maybe this is something Twsp. Trustees could also
use for people adopting cemeteries.
Are you also giving the families information on the best ways to read stones, and
clean stones. Last Spring I found stones in the cemetery I work in chalked with neon green
sidewalk chalk. There was also some terrible information in a national genealogy magazine
last year involving chalk, metal picks, ect. There is so much bad info out there, that
needs to be corrected.
