Sue,
It is a good idea, but unfortunately Mr. Apple and Mr. Kleiman don't seem to
have consciences (sorry, but that's how I read them). They won't care if the
world is watching. If you don't live in Hancock Co. and pay taxes and vote,
they don't care.
They are infuriated that a girl from a neighboring county is coming in and
telling them what is wrong with the cemeteries there. They think I am
"picking" on them. They don't understand that most of my family is buried
there and I will be buried there. Most of my family still lives in the
county, votes, and pays taxes. And they don't care that the cemeteries are
not taken care of properly because dead people don't vote or pay taxes.
Cemeteries take up prime development land, etc...
It is worth a try. At this point I don't think anything would hurt.
Thanks,
Angela Tielking

Angela,
Suggest you send a request to listers on the Rootsweb "Cemetery-L" list
and
ask them to send emails to the county commissioners telling them the
"world"
is watching. They should include their full names, addresses, phone
numbers
and email addresses.
Long live the World Wide Web. It may just make us all cemetery Champions
of
the World!

proposed cemetery commission board for the county.
> I spoke with one of the commissioners, Jack Heiden, on Monday. He was on
vacation when I gave my proposal. He is a supporter of the cem. comm.
board.
I handed each commissioner a report/proposal. (There are 3
commissioners
for
Hancock) I left one on Jack's desk for him to look over when he
returned
from vacation. He told me when he got back to work on Monday, there were 3
of my reports on his desk. Meaning the other two commissioners put their
copies on his desk. I take this to mean the decision has already been made
=
No.
> Jack and I discussed a survey to be put in the local paper regarding the
county's cemeteries. Once the survey results are in (hopefully in support
of
a cem. comm. board), Jack will make a motion to the other two
commissioners
to create a cem. board.
> Robin Ropke had a great idea. He said we should get some posters posted
around the county with a 1800's picture of a woman and baby or family,
etc... and say something about what they did for the county, etc.. and
below
show a neglected pioneer cemetery and say " and this is how we
repay
them".
> Also, Mr. Kleiman said he has received zero calls on the
cemetery issue.
Because he won't return the calls! One lady said she has tried a couple of
times and left messages with Kleiman and Apple and they have not returned
her calls. Hmmmm.
> Two people did write letters to the editor concerning the cemetery issue
(and were in favor) and were published this week.
