Found, I was wrong with the spelling of William C. 's marker. It was DeHoff
not DeMoff. I want to thank and apologize to everyone. I'll do what I can to
clean up the marker and get it to the right location in Noble Co. This sort
of find is something everyone who belongs to INPCRP should be glad to be a
part of.

And how long have you been at this genie business? Tee hee. You know
anything is possible. However.......
In Swan Cemetery, Section 1 row 18, are recorded DeHoffs:
Anthony 1822-1876
Elizabeth (Homsher) (w/o Anthony) 1831-1901 1-18
Alton J (s/o A&E) Mar 29, 1867 13 d 1-18
William C (s/o A&E) Oct 13, 1864 2y6m14d 1-18
Whether the stones are still there in a readable condition or not is
doubtful - but they were read there at some point. Next time I'm down that
way I'll go have a look.
I have been indexing marriage records for the Salt Lake City bunch/Indiana
Genealogical Society - and have run into several DeHuffs and DeHoffs - but
no DeMoffs - in various Indiana counties.
Delaware County is quite a bit south of Noble - so dunno how poor ole
Willie's marker got down there, but Muncie has Ball State - a college town
with many transients - and anything is possible.

I have forwarded your email address to Mark Kreps who is trying to
get the marker home. I am not sure how a marker for William C DeHoff
who is supposedly buried in Swan Cemetery would get to Delaware
County. Is it possible that the transcription for William was
actually included from family records and not an actual stone?
I've never found anything to show for sure when Anthony and Elizabeth
moved to Noble County from Jay County - perhaps they were in Delaware
County when William died? Lots of questions for sure.
The original message is at the very bottom.

Hi Mark
Based on the various comments about the spelling, we did another
analysis of
the 1860-1870 records, with the following assumptions:
Birth dates of the couple was 1826 +/- 20 years, or between 1806
and 1846,
which would make them as young as 15 in 1861.
Surname was 6 characters, with no internal spacing, beginning in
DeH, DeM,
or DeN, and ending in F. This allows the 4th and 5th characters to
be anything.
The first names and middle initials are accurate in the records.
Note some
variation for the same people in the spelling of surname in the two
census
records.
People of interest located in this survey include:
1860
Abraham & Rebecca E. DeHoff, Wayne Co. OH
Abraham & Elizabeth DeHuff, Cumberland Co. PA (Ditto in 1870)
Amos & Emeline DeHoff, York Co. PA (Note alternate spelling in 1870)
(zero matches for dem??f and den??f)
1870
Alfred & Emma DeNolf, New York Co. NY
Anthony & Elisabeth DeHoff, Noble Co. IN
Abraham & Elizabeth DeHuff, Cumberland Co. PA (Ditto in 1860)
Amos & Emma DeHuff, York Co. PA (Note alternate spelling in 1860)
The most interesting of the above are Anthony & Elisabeth DeHoff, of
neighboring Noble Co. IN, which vary from your original spelling,
DeMoff, by only
one character
