I would like to add that is there is anyone in the state legislature that
will fight for something he believes in and that is right, it will be Tom
Saunders. I've known Tom from when we both were in county government, and he
is truly sincere in what he does.
Ask Tom sometime about voting against a bill that would require the US flag
to be flown at half mast on Veterans Day....a vote he took during his first
term of office. He was the only state rep to vote against it....yes, it was
99 to 1. They gave him the opportunity to even change his vote and he
wouldn't. He caught all kinds of flak from the VFW, American Legion,
etc....but his reasoning was simple. He agreed that the flag should be flown
to honor those deceased veterans, but he also knows the US Constitution only
allows for the President and Governor to order the flag flown at half mast,
and he was not going to vote for a bill that was unconstitutional, since the
legislature does not have that power. That's the kind of principals he
has...and if you can get him to author or sponsor a bill for cemetery
legislation, he'll fight for it to the end.
My two cents worth is done....and thanks to all in Henry County who are
helping all of us around the state.
