Greetings from the List Manager.
If any of you are subscribed to more that one e-mail discussion group on
Rootsweb, I highly recommend that you avail yourself of a new free service
they are offering.
You can now go to one place and request the names of all Rootsweb e-mail
groups to which you are subscribed. The Rootsweb will e-mail them to you
within a couple of minutes of your request. Further, ONLY YOU can receive the
response as it will be sent to the e-mail address through which you are
presently subscribed.
If you have used more than one email address since discovering RootsWeb, go
back and redo the process for each email address you've use. For instance, if
you use a Hotmail account to subscribe to the PRATHER list, but use your
"real" address to subscribe to other groups, you'll need to make separate
requests for each address.
It's fun and painless. One person has described this service as the "greatest
thing since chocolate". Best thing since sliced bread maybe, but
chocolate?!!? :-)
Many of us have saved the resulting list from Rootsweb for future reference,
but you can go back any time to re-check your subscription list.
Here's the URL for "Password Central":
http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com
If you have any questions or suggestions after trying Password Central, please
use the special board that's been set up just for this purpose at:
http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/PasswordCentral
For those of you who don't already know, in a typical month, RootsWeb
processes more than 180 million email messages on over 18,000 mailing lists
like this one. In addition, RootsWeb hosts more than 144,000 message boards
and over 12,000 independently authored Web sites. This is an enormous
resource to all of us interested in family history research.
I haven't beaten the drum about Rootsweb in quite some time, but it is only
through subscribers' monetary support that Rootsweb can continue to provide
innovative services such as Password Central.
Rootsweb.com is the oldest and largest free genealogy site online. A lot of
others have jumped on the bandwagon over the past few years, but Rootsweb
continues to lead the pack in providing FREE resources to everyone. I hope
you'll consider making a voluntary contribution to Rootsweb by visiting:
http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html
There you will find a description of the benefits for each contributor
category:
$12 Contributor
$24 Sponsor
$50 Sponsor Plus
$100 Donor
$150 Donor Plus
For as little as $1 a month, you can help keep the Rootsweb cooperative effort
live and well and contribute your support to the tremendous resources they
make available to us. See
www.rootsweb.com for more information.
