Subject: Re: [INPCRP] ground penetrating radar technology
I have several questions/comments here. Hope you'll all indulge
me. :)
Does anyone know the approximate cost involved in having the ground
penetrating radar done?
We sort of found the gravestone taken from a southern Indiana cemetery.
The thieves took it upon themselves to decide that no one else was
interested or cared about the stone and removed it. They sent it to
Georgia to have it ... not clear on what they had done, but something
x-rays it or images it and is supposed to be able to read what is on the
stone and will RECUT it. :( The county sheriff was notified of the
person who took it, was given the phone number to contact them and I can't
even get a response from the sheriff as to what is/has been done. :(
What I find the most horrifying is that the offender's husband supposedly
runs a large cemetery in Ohio -- you would think he would know it's
illegal to remove something from a cemetery! The offender told a cousin
that we were "lucky" the stone was made of gray granite and not red. Red
can't be recut. Any truth to that?
Has anyone heard of this technology to read old stones and recut them?
New question: I know of a cemetery that is in a farm field. I don't
*think* it is marked on any maps (still looking into it). It does contain
the grave of a historically significant Civil War soldier. The property
the cemetery is on is for sale. What is the best way to protect this
cemetery from a prospective new farmer disregarding its sanctity?
Thanks,
Diana Sparks
