Hi LA,
What we call field markers is just a rock that has been used to mark a grave. Most often,
as we have found in our cemeteries, that the rocks are crudely, and some have had some
shaping of the rock very well done, to make it look more like a grave marker. Sometimes we
will find inscriptions in the rock - sometimes it is just initials, sometimes it will be a
full inscription with name and date of death and sometimes we find nothing inscribed. The
relatives probably didn't have the money for a nice marble stone so they made one
themselves. Some of them, you can tell, put a lot of effort into craving the rock.
We treat the field markers like any other marker. We will note the info on the rock if
there is any, if not, it is noted as a field marker.
I didn't know if you knew L.A., but I resigned as Advisor of the Hancock Co. Cemetery
Commission a couple of months ago due to a conflict with the president and I. I still keep
tabs on the cemeteries though.

Angela,
Can you explain more about the field markers? I think others would like to know.
What is a field marker?.
How do you treat that in your map? Especially if there are no records..
