. An agreement
between the cemetery, township trustees and officials
with the Division of Nature Preserves to not mow the
area and allow a prarie to develop was finalized in
1981
according to a handout I was given when I met with the Rep. of the Nature
Preserve, and the Morgan Twp. Trustee in St Johns Cemetery in Harrison Co.it
said there were at least 5 with a nice growth of Wildflowers (Weeds) in the
state, and St Johns Lutheran (barrens) was the finest example. an Arrangement
was made with the TWP trustee in 1984 for the Nature Preserve to take it over
and let it grow up, and then periodically burn it. The Trustee looked at them
and handed it over like it was a Hot poker. He Got rid of a pain in the Butt.
The Nature Preserve got a Flower Nursery. They still have no proof fire does
no harm, in fact they say iit keeps Lichen off the Stones. But if you look at
the fire blackened stones in a photo I took,Lichen sure ain't no worse !! Oh
well no one listens anyhow. It only affects me. I will say this, no State
official or Employe would ask the state to take over a graveyard where their
family is buried. This is the deep southern part of the state. We push around
easier then the wealthier part of up state. The Governor is from Harrison Co.
I think the rain's geting to me.
