Penni,
I sure would like to have the names of any Civil War soldiers buried there.
I compile burial sites of Indiana CW soldiers.
I find it hard to believe that a Township Trustee wouldnt be more than
thrilled to let a preservation/restoration effort be made on a township
cemetery. Most of them are so strapped for cash to do any cemetery
work,(other than mowing), that I would think they would be bending over
backwards wanting help. A well restored cemetery actually requires less
maintenance than one with stones down and laying all around the yard(and the
stones dont get knick up by the mower) And from a public relation/political
standpoint....it always look better on your resume' at election time.
There must be some reason they are fighting a preservation
effort(ignorance, different agenda, political ax to grind, laziness, etc)
If you make the information known about the poor condition of the cemetery
to the SAR,SUVCW,DAR,local American Legion, local VFW,etc, then at least they
would be aware of the situation and might exert some pressure on the
trustee.
Keep your chin up, there's hope.

Can someone help me.I am trying to get permission to restore an
old
cemetary to no avail so far.The town trustee is giving us a large
hassle.Anyways I have noticed 2 soldiers buried here on the records and
can't find the actual stones so I assume these men's stones are unreadable
now.Is there a place I can notify about this so I can get the rights to
restore the cemetary and get the rights for these 2 men to be honored
right.Please someone I need help.
