Jack,
Is there any provision for monitoring potential damage that may be occurring
to the stones? I would bet there is not much data currently available on
the effects of this burning, so it might be good to keep an eye on it.

Subject: [INPCRP] St Johns looks like a Cemetery
St. Johns Lutheran (barrens) Cemetery
To the List and Wm. Spurlock@saving Graves
Last night I received a Phone Call from Fred Uhl, the Morgan
Twp.
Harrison Co. Trustee. He is the man designated to care for this
cemetery.
After a meeting the 6th of March at the cemetery, With a Representative of
the Nature Preserve, A Division of the DNR, and a Rep. of the Nature
Conservancy., Trustee Fred Uhl, and myself, we struck a Compromise
agreeable
to all 4. The Cemetery will be Burned every 4-5 years at a height of
6
inches
after it is mowed. It will be mowed November 1st. That allows about 7
months
out of the year when the cemetery can be visited by the Elderly, the
Handicapped and Small Children as should any cemetery in INDIANA
Today it looked like a Cemetery should.!! First I would like
to
thank the Representative of the N.P. and the DNR for their
willingness to
cooperate, and make concessions, as I also had to make some of my own.
They
knew what they wanted and I knew what I wanted. We met in the middle
with
the
Trustee, and we all came out winners I still don't approve of
burning a
cemetery, but on this one I will conduct my own study for damage. At 6
inches
I believe it will be very minimal if at all. Good things can happen
when
everyone works together toward a logical conclusion. I also wish to Thank
Trustee Fred Uhl, He was sort of in the middle, but did a very fine clean
up
a fine job. I have photos taken the day Bill Spurlock got the E-mail
about
the condition. I took them about an hour after I read about it. This
afternoon I took 24 more Photos. They are different. When I first went
over
the hill and saw it, My wife and I both thought we turned on the
wrong
road.
I honestly believe I had tears in my eyes.
I went across the road to the State Troopers house and
asked
how it looked. He said first, I hope you had permission. I answered
everything he asked, and then he said it REALLY LOOKS GREAT. Now people
can
get in and visit. Now as soon as they get the standard White and
Black
sign
I was promised, even mentioning St. Johns Cemetery as well as the
Barrens,
and get rid of the Monstrosity directly in front, I'll be happy. Well,
I've
talked to much, I will get the before, and after Photos on Line
tomorrow,
for
those interested. as far as what has been accomplished, this is what
I
told
my children," If you need help and only yell once, no one will
listen, but
keep it up and sooner or later someone will listen and help you". Being
good
Friday I feel Blessed. I've been Helped. Happy Easter, and
don't forget
the
actual meaning of Sunday. Have fun To
