Jeannie,
Does the DHPA or the DNR have any say as to whether Pyke Funeral Home
completely digs up all of the Bodies buried in the unmarked graves, or do they
just take the word of the Funeral Director and let it go. I would think a State
Archaeologist should be on the site at cost to the Developers to make sure
the job is completed. Or will they be putting in a basement, or septic system
and "Suddenly" discover they missed one. Pyke is not noted for following the law
to the letter. The New Stones ordered by the same Court Order Exhuming the
bodies in 2001, have not been placed yet, nor do I believe they will. Being a
licensed Funeral Director gives you a paper saying you will follow the Law, But
it sure doesn't guarantee it. Does anyone check to make sure the job is done
correctly, or does the court order "Guarantee" it will be done according to the
Law???. Pyke-Calloway says the Developers say no one cares about the
cemetery. Well last night I received a call from a Lady that has a daughter buried
there, needless to say she is quite upset, and so are many others. Pyke is
talking about getting out of the mess because of the calls from as far away as
California. He is located in Memphis, which is a very small town. His business
will suffer more than likely if he goes thru with it. The Developers are getting
the ground ready, but they don't come up before the Plan commission until May
13, 2005 for approval. Word is out that there wont even be standing room at
the hearing. I would like an answer as to whether the DHPA or the DNR can or
will see that all Remains are removed, or will it just be guess work. Jeannie
do you have access to the Date the move is Scheduled for.???
